MONUMENT / Leyland, U.K.
Client: M-tec (WEC Group)
Nick Hancock Design Studio was recently selected to design the Leyland Spire – a public sculpture for the town centre in Lancashire. Inspired by the internationally renowned British Leyland logo at its base – helical fronds or ‘shoots of new growth’ spiral upwards to create a landmark sculpture. A symbol of regeneration for the region, depicting Leyland’s engineering past to future.
Standing almost 8m high, this elegant dynamic conical form is created using polished stainless steel box sections fixed to a white concrete base.
The spire is currently in design development and is due to be completed in 2013.
